Older persons publication statement 01 November 2016
Today the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has published 19 inspection reports on residential settings for older people. HIQA monitors designated centres for compliance with Health Act Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.
Two of today’s inspection reports are 18-outcome inspections carried out to inform a registration decision, six are 10-outcome inspections, six are thematic dementia inspections which focus on the quality of life of people with dementia, four are follow-up inspections to follow up on issues of non-compliance and one is a single-specific-issue inspection.
Fifteen centres were found to be operating in compliance with the regulations and Standards. These reports show that residents’ needs were met and the care delivered to residents was safe in these centres.
However, evidence of non-compliance was found in four centres. Residents in these centres were found to be at risk and their needs not met in the areas of governance and management, safeguarding and safety, health and social care needs, suitable staffing, and safe and suitable premises.
