Health statistics related to acute and maternity public hospital activity and mortality based on anonymised data sources are in scope. Private hospital activity is out of scope. Ancillary data on resourcing, financing, staff and facilities, and identifiable health data are out of scope. Primary care data is also out of scope.

Mortality data is classified using the Eurostat 65 Cause of Death Shortlist. Morbidity data is classified using the International Shortlist for Hospital Morbidity Tabulation (ISHMT) – Eurostat / OECD / WHO. (Version 2008-11-10) for diagnoses and the ICD-10-AM / ACHI Procedure Shortlist for procedures.
On average, 1.1 million records are added to the collection annually.
