Health Information and Quality Authority Publishes 2007 Annual Report

Date of publication:

The Health Information and Quality Authority today published its Annual Report for 2007. The Report covers the period from 15th May, when the Authority was established under the Health Act 2007, until 31st December 2007.

Reporting to the Minister for Health and Children, the Health Information and Quality Authority is the independent Authority established to drive continuous improvements in the quality, safety and accountability of Ireland’s health and social care services.

The Chairperson of the Authority, Pat McGrath said, “The Authority had been in existence for less than a year for the period of this Annual Report and I believe that it is already making an impact on Ireland’s health and social care services. Over the period of this report, the Authority has already commenced two major investigations into the provision of care to patients, two Health Technology Assessments, completed the National Quality Standards for residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland, undertaken and published a national report into the care of children aged twelve and under, published the first independent national quality hygiene review of Irish hospitals and hosted a major international conference on patient safety among many other pieces of work.

This has been achieved while the Authority has been in the process of developing the staff and infrastructural resources for us to carry out our work.

On behalf of the Authority, I would like to acknowledge the support from people using the services, public and staff in contributing to the work of the Authority to date and look forward to our ongoing engagement over the years to come.”

The summarised financial information set out in the Annual Report does not constitute the Authority’s accounts for the period ended 31 December 2007. This information is derived from draft accounts, as at the time of publishing this Annual Report, these accounts have not been audited. The full accounts will be published on the Authority’s website when the audit process is complete.

Ends.
