Professor Jane Grimson is to receive the O’Moore Medal for her work in Healthcare Informatics
Professor Jane Grimson, Director of Health Information with the Health Information and Quality Authority is to be awarded the O’Moore Medal by the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of healthcare informatics. The Award will be presented to Professor Grimson by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern T.D. during the Society’s annual conference on the 21st of November.
Dr. Tracey Cooper, Chief Executive, the Health Information and Quality Authority said; “The Authority is delighted for Jane that such an honour is to be bestowed upon her. It is a fitting tribute for someone who has devoted her career to the vital field of healthcare informatics with a view to ultimately helping others in the process. Jane’s work has helped to lay the foundations towards building a reliable, high quality healthcare system in this country. The Authority is fortunate to have someone of Jane’s calibre working with us as Director of Health Information and Jane’s expertise brings an added value and dimension to our work.”
Professor Grimson said; “I am delighted and deeply honoured to receive this award on behalf of the many colleagues in Ireland and in Europe with whom I have worked with over the past 27 years. I wish to pay particular tribute to Professor Rory O’Moore who has been an inspiring role model to health informatics researchers and practitioners throughout the world. Health informatics is highly interdisciplinary involving computer scientists, engineers and health professionals working together to improve the efficiency and safety of healthcare services and the awarding of the O’Moore Medal gives valuable recognition to this work.”
Professor Grimson is a pioneer in the field of Healthcare Informatics and receives this award as she concludes her eight year Presidency of the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland. She is Chair of the Centre for Health Informatics at Trinity College, which she helped to establish in 1990. She is also a former Vice-Provost of the College and is Chair of the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology. Professor Grimson is a member of the Board of Science Foundation Ireland and has written over 100 papers and co-authored a textbook on Distributed Database Systems.
The O’Moore Medal was inaugurated by An Taoiseach Mr. Bertie Ahern T.D in 2003 who presented the medal to Professor Rory O'Moore for his contribution to the development of Healthcare Informatics in Ireland. The last recipient of the O’Moore Medal was Professor Dr.Georges De Moor in 2005.
