Since 2012, HIQA has monitored public acute hospitals performance against National Standards in the area of infection prevention and control. To aid national efforts in addressing Covid-19, in April 2020 the National Public Health Emergency Team requested that HIQA provide a desktop evaluation of infection prevention and control preparedness relating to Covid-19 in public acute hospitals. This report outlines findings from this evaluation, which was informed through a self-assessment exercise conducted by hospital groups, allied to HIQA’s own information gained through inspection activity on the ground over recent years.
